Chapter 12 Questions

34 comments:

  1. How has everything that has happened through the course of the novel affected Ponyboy?

Johnny tells Ponyboy that there is still a lot of good in the world. What positive things do you think will happen to Ponyboy in the future? Explain what parts of the novel make you think Ponyboy will experience those positive things.

  2. Everything that has happened through the course of the novel affected Ponyboy. One example is his family. They grew closer together through all the chaos. Another thing is that he will probably go to college and make something of himself both because he realized what Darry gave up for him and because Johnny told him that he could and that he should stay golden. I don't think that the Greasers and Socs will fight so much because of Bob being murdered. The two groups have started talking to each other, not yelling, just talking which never happened before. If you can imagine what is starting right after the huge incident, what will it be like in a couple months? Maybe everything will go back to the way it was, but maybe, just maybe, things will change between the Socs and the Greasers.

  3. The Outsiders,
From chapter one to chapter twelve. I think Ponyboy has been on an emotional roller coaster the whole ride. I think all of these tragic events have made him a way stronger person. He has had so many troubles. He decided not to fight with Darry anymore, which is making him a better person. I think Ponyboy will receive an education and hopefully make something great of himself. I think after some time the two groups will eventually get along and maybe go their own separate ways.
When Johnny tells Ponyboy about all the good things in the world. I think Ponyboy will hopefully look at that as a start and move on the right path. He will hopefully do things he likes to do and make something of himself, and stay "golden"!
This book was pretty good and there are a lot of lessons to learn from it!

  5. Everything that happened through the course of the novel affected Ponyboys life (well duh of course it affected his life, he like wrote it) but the main things were fighting, and that affected his life by since Johnny and him were fighting the Socs it caused 2 deaths, Bob and later on poor old Johnny. Also, their family growing closer and it affected his life by he should really care for that he still DOES have family, and doesn't have to go to an orphanage. Friends affected them by they are becoming closer to the Socs who were their enimies by far! Also, by Johnny and Dally dieing (which blows...) which made the greasers become closer. Wow this was really long...

  7. Effects on Ponyboy that have happened in the couse of this novel are one he might actually get the chance to go to college unlike all the other greasers. From this tragety he went through he had the chance to come up with the theme that will probably get hime some scholarships. His family also changed. His family grew closer together from this tragaty because in the beginning Ponyboy strongly disliked Darry because Darry was so stricked with him. But in the end he finds out that the only reason Darry is so stricked with him because he is afraid of losing him and Darry wants Ponyboy to have a better life. Ponyboy is no longer scared of the Socs because he had the chance to listen to Randy's story. Now Ponyboy realizes that Socs are just like Greasers on they don't grease their hair. His prespective on fighting has also changed. Ponyboy is no longer afraid of fighting but he doesn't like fights because no matter how fights end (rumble) Greasers wil still be Greasers and Socs will still be Socs. This was a great book!

  8. Dear Bloggers,
I will be respondng to question number one.
What happens through the course of the book and how it affects Ponyboy is the event of the killing of Bob has made Ponyboy think that Socs were hunam too. They make mistakes! Saving the children from the burning church made him become a hero, but John got hurt badly. That was a depressing time for Ponyboy! When the rumble went on all he thought about was scaring the socs, Johnny, how did Dally get there, and Randy and Cherry! This made him want to hurt them all more. He blamed this whole situation on the Socs, but late didn't and realizied it wasn't the socs fault! When Johnny died and Dally died he really went out of wack! Turns out he has a concusion! He missed a lot school and got mad at himself, but late realizied that there were many opsticals that he would have to face, but he knew Soda, Darry, and the gang were always there for him!

  9. Dear Bloggers,
I will be responding to question number two. Some positive things that will happen is he will probably be able to go to college! He will probably get to go to college because he is a very well rounded yound boy that is a straight A student! He has his whole future to decide what to go for! I think he could take on anything! Maybe he will start a program about bulling and treating people equal! He could take to kids about his experience and how to stop it from happening!

  10. Some positive things that I think that will happen to Ponyboy in the future is that he will get good grades and find a decent paying job that will help his family make more money. Also I think he's become a new person after the death of Bob, Johnny, and DAlly because he realizes fighting is not the answer and he will be a better person in the future. The parts in the book that make me think this is that it says he has good grades, but their slipping I think Darry will get relined after he is hurt and he will go back to normal on that.

  11. I disagree with ms0618 on how he's going to go to college because I think they can't afford it unless he somehow gets a full-ride scholarship to a college on his grades which I highly doubt!

  12. I think over the course of the novel ponyboy was effected greatly but not in a positive way but then again, his life has always been filled with violence and death.

  13. Hey people,
How everything effected him was at the beginning he was kinda of the shy one of the group, but then he started being in everything. And at the end after all of this has happened to him he started to act tougher. But they still want him to be a nice little school boy.

  14. Everything that happened to Ponyboy over the course of the novel has affected his personality, his friends, and how he sees the world. When Johnny died and Dally died, his mind thought he could keep things the way they were by pretending they weren't dead but he came to the conclusion that they are still alive in things they used to do, which I believe as well.

  16. KK,
I disagree with you. I don't think that he will have a good grades, because of what has happened to him. He just wants to act tough and be a real greaser.

  17. Hello Blogger,
Over the course of this novel Pony was effected greatly. He seen both of two of his very close friends die right in front of him. But I think that that all the stuff he went through made him all the more stronger.
I think in the future Pony will finish High School and then college, because he likes school and Darry himself said that Pony wanted to go to college they would totally support him.

    Sincerely,

  19. A positive thing that I think will happen to Pony in the future is that he will move out of the Greaser side of town. I think that he'll be a guy that makes good money, or has a rich life anyway. I think this because right before the rumble, Pony says that the Shepard gang and the Brumly boys will always be the same way they are now, but they'll get worse as they get older. He says that they'll die fighting just like Dally dies in the book. I think, that because he realizes this, that he'll change himself. That he'll be good. I think that he'll die a hero. Not because of an accident, but because of who he was, what he did, how he changed.

  20. I'm going to make a timeline of events that have affected Ponyboy. First, Bob tries to drown Ponyboy so then Johny killed Bob. That made Ponyboy scared and shocked so him and Johny ran away. Then the church started to burn down with people inside of it, so Ponyboy showed that he can be heroic by saving the people inside of it. By doing this though, Johny was injured very badly. Then Johny was in the hospital and wouldn't even let his mother see him, but he let Ponyboy and Darry see him, which made Ponyboy think of how much Johny means to him and everyone else in the gang. Then came the rumble, which united Ponyboy, the greasers, and a couple of soc's. After the rumble, Johny died, and made Ponyboy and the rest of the gang very sad, and it also showed them how important is for them to stick together. Dally was so sad and angry at Johny's death that he robbed and grocery store! The greasers went to save him from the fuzz, but they were too late and got shot by the fuzz. Ponyboy wanted to believe that Johny wasn't dead because he was in denial. Over-all, I'd have to agree and disagree with rh, because there were a lot of bad things that happened to Ponyboy, but he also learned what means and meant the most to him!
    Man, that's a mouthfull!

  21. Everything in the novel that as happened to Ponyboy really has shaped his character and how he judges his life to the world and how he sees other peoples lives.

  22. CK I agree with you that Ponyboy might become rich and be able to get a good job, not getting into fights, and maybe stopping people getting jumped.

  23. For the second question the good that will come out of Ponyboy I think is that: He'll marry Cherry. He'll go to college. He'll graduate with honors. He'll get a scholarship. The Curtis family will stay together. All of these things can happen as long as Pony keeps a positive attitude on life and he believes Johnny's words. "Stay gold!"

  25. All the stuff in the novel has affected Pony because for him, it has been an emotional roller coaster. He finally knows that Darry really does love him and thats makes him feel really good. The deaths of both of his buddies really messes him up, and makes it very difficult for him to move on with his life. When Johnny killed Bob that made him emotional too, he was very worried and wanted to go back and confess.

So all the stuff that happened through out the book has realy affected him.

  26. BK-
You're right. Pony does have a lot of bad stuff happen to him, but within the bad stuff, he learns.

    Everybody-
What happened to his parents? I know that they died, but how?

Every thing that happened in this book affected pony boy by shaping him, his gang, his family and his life for ever. some stuff tought him how to be a man and some stuf tough him the meaning of life. This book had a big pointa the author was getting across, you don't have to fight the sides are both the same on the inside.

  28. Yo Bloggers,
I think in the novel Ponyboy will get a scholarship and get a really good job and be rich. I think he will move out of the "wrong side of the tracks" and probably help Darry go to college so he can get a really good job too. I believe this because in the book he had really good grades if he tried and because I think even though they fight a lot, Ponyboy loves Darry.

  30. Peace God loves the Earth(and everything on the Earth).
To everyone who has ever read this book and to all the people who just come upon this blog randomly,
I think that Pony's future will consist of college, a happy family, and a well paying job. Maybe he will move to the country like he dreams about while sleeping in the lot with Johnny before everything happened(page 48). Darry talks about Ponys grades and how they can get him to college (page 173). Cherry talks about how nice and sweet he is, other girls might see this and he might get married(pages(this is at the movies with Cherry)26-46).
Pony future all depens on how he lives his life and if he lives it like Johnny said he will do pretty good in life.

  31. Dear Bloggers,
I am responding to question number two. Some positive things that could happen to Ponyboy in the future is that he has good grades so he will probably go to college. If he goes to college he will get a good job and get a house in a good neighbor hood without greasers or Soc. May be even in the country. That won't happen until he's older but he will still probably go to college. Also he could become a track star. He tells us that he runs for varsity and he is pretty young so I bet by the time he is a junior or senoir he will be really really good.

  32. Dear students,
I think all of the events that happened to Ponyboy is it made him a better person. It helped him see what the important things in life are. With everything that happened to him has really changed him and I think he would try to be a better person. Like how Johnny said to Pony to "stay golden" it made his life feel like he could really change his life around. Pony I knew was always a good person.

  33. Dear Peeps,
Some things that will be positive to Pony is he will stay out of the streets. Also he will treat himself and others better. Pony will become a better person also. Maybe all of these things happened to Pony for a reason. Maybe so he could become a better person.
    Bye Bye,
    ta114 Peace
